The Best Apps to Learn Candlestick Patterns in 2026

Search either app store for "learn candlestick patterns" and you get a wall of lookalike names. They teach in three ways: reference apps and courses explain the shapes, quizzes check whether the names stuck, and live recognition drills put patterns on a chart and grade your call. We compared 16 apps and 2 web quizzes and picked the best one for each goal, not one overall winner.

Disclosure: we make Chart Guess, one of the apps below. Playing it requires a paid Pro subscription, and there's no free trial. Every app here, ours included, is described from its own website or store listing, checked October 12, 2026. Links to other apps aren't affiliate links.

How we picked

On October 12, 2026 we searched the web, Google Play's US store and Apple's US search API (which approximates App Store search) for four main phrases, such as "learn candlestick patterns" and "candlestick patterns quiz", plus variants. We kept the apps and web quizzes that teach candlestick patterns and read each one's official website or store listing.

Everything about other apps comes from those pages, not hands-on testing. We didn't rank by star rating, since several apps have only a handful, and we left out pattern scanners, which spot patterns for you instead of teaching you.

Reference apps, courses and flashcards

These teach names and shapes. Start here if a hammer and a hanging man still look alike to you.

Candlestick Patterns JCP

Candlestick Patterns JCP (Candlestick Patterns - Forex on Google Play) is a free forex course. Its "Forex University" lectures run in three programs, with Japanese candlesticks as one topic alongside chart patterns, harmonics and Elliott Wave. It also has a candlestick cheat sheet and trading simulator. No in-app purchases are listed; the Android version shows ads. The listing describes lectures rather than quizzes, and the iOS version dates from March 2023 (Android from July 2025). 4.7 from 779 App Store ratings.

ChartBuddy: Learn Trading

ChartBuddy is a searchable trading handbook with visual candlestick cheat sheets, flashcards, quizzes and an AI assistant that explains patterns or a chart screenshot you upload. Candlesticks are one section of many. It's a free download with in-app purchases: on the US App Store, tiers from $29.99 to $49.99 plus market add-ons at $5.99 each. New in June 2026; 4.9 from 128 App Store ratings.

Forex Trading School & Game

Forex Trading School & Game (Forex Hero) is an illustrated trading school with candlestick patterns as one topic, plus a quiz, a paper-trading simulator and a trend-prediction simulator based on real-world headlines. It's a free download with several Pro options ($12.99 to $89.99 on the US App Store; the listing doesn't say what each covers), and the App Store listing notes ads. The largest rating base here: 4.8 from 11,208 App Store ratings.

Quiz apps and web quizzes

Quizzes ask you to name a pattern or call its direction, then mark you. They show which names have stuck.

TradingCake

TradingCake (Candlestick Patterns T-Cake on the App Store) pairs a mini trading course and a candlestick cheat sheet with a pattern quiz, and it detects patterns live on forex, crypto and index charts, with alerts. It's a free download with ads and in-app purchases from $1.99 to $9.99; the listings don't spell out what's free. 4.9 from 253 App Store ratings.

Chart Patterns - Learn Trading

Chart Patterns - Learn Trading by Konvert Ltd quizzes you on 200+ candlestick and chart pattern images in four modes: Classic, Streak (one miss ends the run), a timed Speed mode, and Reverse, where you match a name to its chart. It tracks weak patterns and works offline, and the listing says "No ads, no subscriptions, completely free." Android only; no rating yet.

Babypips (web)

Babypips pairs two Japanese candlestick quizzes and a chart patterns quiz with the Japanese Candlesticks lessons in its School of Pipsology and a one-page cheat sheet of 18 patterns. No price or paywall shows on the quiz and course pages (the site has a separate Premium section), and signing in unlocks progress tracking. They're forex-oriented knowledge quizzes, not chart drills, and the candlestick quiz pages were last modified in July 2022.

Or test yourself here: this site has a free 12-question candlestick pattern quiz and a 10-question chart pattern quiz.

Chart drills and prediction games

These put patterns on a chart and ask you to make a call. Chartle and Chart Guess are built around that; CandleBoss adds a predict-the-next-candle replay to its quiz sessions, and Day Trading Simulator & Games includes a pattern-spotting mini-game. They work best once you know the names.

Chartle: Candlestick Patterns

Chartle cuts a historical chart off where a pattern completed. You call what happens next or name the pattern, then the outcome candles animate in with the pattern's name and a one-line explanation. Sessions are five questions, and each of its 49 patterns has a lesson. The daily challenge is free, and one daily chart plays in the browser. The paid upgrade (Chartle Pro, $6.99 on the US App Store) adds unlimited practice and single-pattern drills. New in September 2026; 4.9 from 50 App Store ratings.

CandleBoss: Candlestick Drill

CandleBoss drills 67 candlestick patterns in ten-card quiz sessions with spaced repetition. Chart Replay has you predict the next candle over ten scored rounds, and Context Mode has you spot patterns inside full charts; all charts are simulated. The free tier gives one drill, one Context and one Chart Replay session a day. Premium is $4.99 a month, $29.99 a year or $49.99 lifetime, and new subscribers get a 7-day free trial. Needs iOS 17 or later; 4.7 from 3 ratings.

Day Trading Simulator & Games

Day Trading Simulator & Games (Day Trading Academy on Google Play) is a broad beginner course with lessons, quizzes, paper-trading simulators and mini-games. Its Pattern Hunter game has you spot patterns and predict price moves. It's free to start, with ads and many in-app purchases ($6.99 to $149.99 on the US App Store, including $9.99 ad removal); the listing doesn't say what each unlocks. 4.8 from 1.1K App Store ratings.

Chart Guess (ours)

Chart Guess is the app we make. You read a realistic chart, generated from historical market behavior, call BUY or SELL, and get graded instantly as the future candles reveal. Blitz Mode is a 60-second score attack, and Edge Analytics shows your win rate on every pattern, your average read speed and your three weakest setups. Beginners get easier charts first, and the 53-pattern library covers entry, stop and common mistakes for each.

The catch: it's a free download, but playing requires Chart Guess Pro: $7.99 a week, $12.99 a month or $29.99 a year on iPhone, with no free trial (and no ads). It's a drill, not a course, it's English only, and it has 4.6 from 22 US App Store ratings. Google Play lists it as Master Chart Trading Patterns, with different in-app prices, so check there. Want to try the drill format before paying? Chartle's daily challenge and CandleBoss's free tier let you.

How to choose

Whatever you pick: an app can sharpen your eye, but patterns are probabilities, not guarantees. Use these apps to practice reading charts, not as a source of trade signals.
